Amici Roof Prism Usage Precautions
Amici Roof Prism Usage Precautions
Amici Roof Prism is a core optical component for high-resolution imaging systems (e.g., telescopes, microscopes, precision rangefinders), responsible for image erecting and 90° optical path deflection. To ensure its long-term stable performance and avoid accuracy degradation, please follow the below precautions:
1. Handling & Installation Precautions
Clean Contact Only:
Avoid direct contact with the prism's optical surfaces (especially the roof surface) with bare hands. Wear lint-free nitrile gloves or use vacuum tweezers for operation, to prevent oil stains, sweat, or fingerprints from adhering to the surface and causing light scattering.
Controlled Clamping Force:
When installing the prism in optical devices, use soft, non-abrasive fixtures (e.g., PTFE or rubber gaskets). Excessive clamping force will cause mechanical deformation of the prism, leading to roof angle deviation and double-image defects in imaging.
Precision Alignment:
Ensure the prism's optical axis is concentric with the device's light path during installation. Misalignment exceeding 0.5° will reduce imaging resolution and increase light loss.
2. Cleaning & Maintenance Guidelines
Regular Cleaning Cycle:
Clean the prism surface every 3–6 months (or as needed for harsh environments) to remove dust and contaminants.
Correct Cleaning Steps:
Blow off surface dust with a dry, oil-free nitrogen gun or a rubber bulb syringe (avoid blowing directly with your mouth to prevent moisture and saliva contamination).
Moisten a lint-free optical cleaning wipe with analytical-grade absolute ethanol or isopropanol, and gently wipe the surface in a single direction (do not rub back and forth).
Dry the surface with a clean, dry wipe, or let it air dry in a 100-class clean room.
Forbidden Cleaners:
Do not use strong solvents (e.g., acetone, benzene) or alkaline cleaning agents, which will corrode the prism's anti-reflection coating and damage the glass substrate.
3. Storage & Environmental Requirements
Storage Environment:
Store the prism in a sealed container with desiccant (relative humidity ≤ 40%), at a constant temperature of 15–25℃. Avoid storage in high-temperature, high-humidity, or dusty environments to prevent mold growth or surface oxidation.
Temperature Adaptation:
Do not expose the prism to rapid temperature changes (temperature change rate ≤ 5℃/hour). Extreme temperature shocks will cause internal stress in the glass, leading to cracks or coating peeling.
Avoid Harmful Exposure:
Keep the prism away from direct sunlight, UV radiation, and high-power laser irradiation for extended periods, as these will accelerate coating aging and reduce reflectivity/transmittance.
4. Application & Usage Limitations
Laser Power Compatibility:
Confirm the prism's laser damage threshold before using it in laser systems. Do not exceed the rated power density (typically ≥ 10 J/cm² for 1064nm pulsed lasers), to avoid surface ablation or permanent damage.
Band Limitation:
Use the prism within its specified wavelength range (e.g., 400–2000nm for BK7 glass prisms). Using it outside the designed band will result in sharp drops in transmittance and severe chromatic aberration.
Avoid Impact & Vibration:
Do not subject the prism to collisions, drops, or strong vibrations. The roof edge is a high-precision, fragile structure; even minor impacts will cause edge chipping and imaging distortion.
5. Inspection & Troubleshooting Tips
Regular Performance Checks:
Use a star tester or laser interferometer to detect the prism's imaging quality and roof angle accuracy every 12 months. If double images or blurred edges appear in the image, the prism may have deformation or coating damage and needs to be returned for professional calibration or maintenance.
Coating Damage Handling:
If the coating surface shows scratches, peeling, or discoloration, do not attempt to repair it yourself. Contact the manufacturer for re-coating or replacement services.
